Several animals died during an early-morning barn fire Wednesday northwest of Diamond Valley.
Diamond Valley Fire Chief TJ Moore said the fire started in a barn on 264 Street West, in Foothills County, at about 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 11.
Firefighters found a large barn fully involved and partially collapsed when they arrived, Moore said.
“The homeowner was rushing to save animals and help them escape from the structure,” he said.
Ten fire trucks responded from Diamond Valley Fire Rescue and the Foothills Fire Department, including Priddis and Spruce Meadows.
Firefighters were able to limit the spread of the fire and assist with the evacuation of animals from the structure, but not all animals survived, he said.
“There were animals that unfortunately did not survive the fire. However, there were no people that were injured.”
Crews remain on scene doing mop up work.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
