EDITORIAL: Caring for neighbours is focus of Wheel Cares

Western Wheel readers outdid themselves last year, but we’re hopeful they can take it up another notch this holiday season.

The 2024 Western Wheel Cares campaign officially gets underway on Friday, Nov. 1, so we’re once again calling on all those in the Foothills – individuals, families, businesses, groups -- to get behind the initiative and support seven very worthwhile organizations that do so much good in our community.

Western Wheel Cares received a record $100,002 in donations in 2023, bringing the 12-year total to $669,061, an impressive amount that has been made possible by the generosity of Foothills residents.

The annual holiday campaign has been blessed with fantastic support from donors and we’re hoping that outpouring continues this year as the needs in our communities have only intensified over the last few years. It’s more important than ever to extend a helping hand to neighbours if you’re in a financial position to do so.

There are many reasons to give but one of the most compelling elements of Western Wheel Cares is that with a single donation you’re able to provide financial assistance to seven organizations: Foothills Advocacy in Motion Society, Foothills Country Hospice, Inclusion Foothills, Okotoks Food Bank, Pound Rescue, Rowan House Society and Sheep River Health Trust. Rather than having to choose between so many worthy local causes at this time of year, your donation to Western Wheel Cares ensures all of them receive your support.

These organizations do amazing work throughout the Foothills so it’s imperative that we collectively continue to support them, so they can carry on providing services to those in our communities who rely on them.

Please support Western Wheel Cares this holiday season as your donations will allow the seven benefitting charities to continue to do so much good work in the Foothills. Thank you.
