LETTER: Snow plowing creates even bigger problems in Okotoks

Dear Editor,

I have been living in Okotoks since 1991. It was one of the most pleasant places to live at that time. Yes, we did have some problems, but we dealt with them.

We also had excellent residential street snow removal, but over the last few years things have gotten constantly worse. It is now to the point I would rather we did not have any snow plowing as all they do is make a mess of the streets and create bigger problems.

The last snowfall came down very wet, but right after they came down the middle of our street plowing the snow into high furrows, it froze, leaving some blocks of ice bigger than two feet deep blocking my driveway. Trying to drive over this would destroy my car.

I am a senior with many health issues. My neighbour is in her 90s. There is no way we could respond to any sort of emergency.

After calling the company responsible for the snow removal or snow plowing, I was told that it is my problem and my responsibility. These big blocks of ice are six feet away from the curb.

I think it is time for the Town to get new people to plow our streets or not plow them altogether.
