Flags at half-mast in Diamond Valley to honour shooting victim

Colin Hough was fatally shot on Aug. 6 in Rocky View County.

Municipal flags in Diamond Valley will be at half-mast following a fatal shooting.

Colin Hough, a Rocky View County employee described as "a beloved father, husband, son, colleague and friend who never hesitated to help anyone," was killed during a shooting at Range Road 282 and Township Road 250, near Strathmore, on Aug. 6.

"In honour of those affected, the Town of Diamond Valley will lower its flags to half-mast," wrote the Town in a social media statement.

One other victim, identified as a FortisAlberta employee, survived the shooting and has been discharged from hospital.

According to Strathmore RCMP, suspects fled the scene in a stolen Rocky View County work truck, which they dumped at Range Road 260 and Township Road 252, located in Wheatland County, and fled the scene.

"Deepest condolences go out to the families, friends and colleagues impacted by this heartbreaking event," the Town of Diamond Valley stated.

A GoFundMe in support of Hough's family is available here, which has far exceeded its $35,000 goal with over $57,000 raised so far.

An investigation into the shooting and at-large suspects, who are considered to be armed and dangerous, is being conducted by RCMP Major Crimes Unit and Strathmore RCMP.
