The Bar U Ranch National Historic Site hosted its annual Old Time Ranch Rodeo on Sunday, Aug. 18, with cowboys and cowgirls taking part in team branding, sorting, doctoring and stray roping.

Bar U Ranch, founded in 1882 as the Northwest Cattle Company and opened to the public as a national historic site in 1995, commemorates the history and importance of ranching in Canada.

The rodeo is run by the Friends of the Bar U Historic Ranch Association, a non-profit that has worked alongside Parks Canada to preserve, protect and promote ranching heritage since 1993.

The Bar U Ranch National Historic Site is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily until Sept. 30, and is located south of Longview off Highway 22.
