Agritourism is flourishing in the Foothills.

Hartell Homestead opened to the public in 2021 and is celebrating its third year as the first farm store in the Foothills.

Now officially in its third year, an anniversary celebration was held on May 11 and 12.

"We've changed quite a lot in three years," said owner Nick Shipley. "We've had a lot more local people join us, we've grown in our farm store, we've grown in the farm in general, we've added more cattle."

Over 100 animals call the Homestead home, including Rhode Island Red chickens, Campbell ducks and the farm's famous Highland cattle.

"Everybody loves coming in and being able to truly shop local and buy things from the neighbours, and it really helps kick start a lot of small businesses," said Shipley, who prides himself on the store's selection of locally-sourced food and gifts.
