The City of Calgary announced this past weekend that it had opened a portion of Highway 1 again for traffic again as the repairs on the Bearspaw feeder main near completion.
The City confirmed with the exception of a few localized lane closures near 43 Street N.W., traffic was flowing freely through the area again.
While the repairs are completed, the City also asked residents to continue to conserve water for a few more days as its slowly returns the Bearspaw feeder main to full capacity over the course of the week.
"Please continue to reduce your water use so we can safely return our Bearspaw South Feeder Main to service and lift water restrictions some time next weekend," said the City in a statement released to the public on Sunday.
Restoring water service involves three key steps: filling the pipe, testing and stabilizing the distribution system that moves water around the city. Each step takes some time to complete before we can fully return to service to normal.
The City also confirmed Saturday’s water use was 471 million litres, which keeps Calgary's water supply in the "green zone" so the Glenmore Water Treatment Plant can operate sustainably.
Level 4 water restrictions remain in place in Calgary and Airdrie until the Bearspaw Feeder main is fully operational again.
