OLDS — A man was found dead in the wake of a house fire in Olds late Friday night.

The Olds Fire Department was called to the scene at 4617 48th St. at 11:17 p.m. after receiving reports of an active fire in the basement and an occupant trapped inside.

“Upon arrival, fire crews encountered light smoke and fire conditions in the basement living area,” a news release issued Monday says. “Tragically, a deceased male was located at the scene.”

The fire was quickly extinguished.

Fire officials say the blaze inflicted “minimal damage” on the home.

The causes of both the fire and the death are currently under investigation by the Olds Fire Department and RCMP but the fire is not considered suspicious.

"Out of respect for the deceased's family, no further information will be released," the release said.

"The Olds Fire Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends affected by this tragedy."
