UPDATE - RCMP end Cold Lake 'Shelter in Place" - suspect still sought

Alberta RCMP are reporting that they have lifted the shelter place advisory in the CFB Cold Lake area. The advisory was put in place just before 8 am.

RCMP in Cold Lake say a shelter in place advisory has been lifted. A suspect is still being sought by police.

Alberta RCMP are reporting that they have lifted the shelter place advisory in the CFB Cold Lake area.

The advisory was put in place just before 8 am. Monday morning following reports of a suspicious person with a firearm in the area of CFB Cold Lake.

The update was sent out four hours later, with RCMP officials saying they have conducted an extensive search, and no longer believe the suspect is in the area.

Police say the reported firearm has been recovered by police.

RCMP say they will be releasing further details when more information becomes available.

COLD LAKE - RCMP from Cold Lake and Bonnyville are "tracking a reportedly armed suspect in the area of CFB Cold lake," according to information released just before 8 a.m. on Monday morning. 

While police search for the suspect, they are issuing a shelter in place for residents who reside north of Kingsway, west of 62nd Street, south of Township Road 632 and east of Range Road 424.

The area includes the Cold Lake Golf and Winter Club. 

The suspect is described as having a light complexion, being six feet tall and was reportedly wearing a black hat, black jacket, white and black stripped shirt and jeans.

Additional updates will be provided when available.

The City of Cold Lake has announced the Golf and Winter Club will be closed for the rest of the day.
