JOB SUMMARY
The Shipping Technician I is responsible for assisting in the shipping and receiving of products, materials, or goods within an organization for all trucks or railcars. This role primarily involves tasks related to order processing, packaging, labeling, and ensuring the accurate and timely shipment of products. Shipping Technicians I work under the supervision of more experienced personnel and is responsible for supporting the overall shipping and inventory management functions.
DIRECT REPORTS / SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
• Verifies quantity, quality, labeling, and addressing of products
and items of merchandise ready for
• shipment
• Counts, weighs, measures, or examines packaging and
contents of items for conformance to company specifications
• Compares items packed with customer's order and other
identifying data
• Loads, unloads, and moves materials within on work site
• Loads materials onto vehicles and railcars
• Employs good warehousing practices, adhering to “first
in/first out” philosophy and organizational strategies
• Loads and unloads board or other materials onto or from
pallets, trays, racks, and shelves
• Cleans work area, machines, and equipment
• Operates forklift in loading trucks or moving materials and
products
• All other duties as assigned
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous experience in shipping or warehouse operations
preferred but not required
• Basic Computer Skills, including some proficiency with
Microsoft Applications.
• Experience with SAP is an Asset
• Minimum G2 License is a requirement. A or D class license is
an Asset
• Willingness to learn and follow instructions
• Basic organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Ability and desire to cross-train in departmental roles,
including Shuttle Truck & Dispatcher roles
• Willingness to support the business in other production roles
as business needs dictate
• Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as needed
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
• Must place safety as the priority demonstrating safe working
behaviors and be a model for proper PPE (Personal Protective
Equipment) use, including wearing a hard hat, safety glasses,
safety shoes, and other PPE as required
• Demonstrates thorough use and participation in the
understanding of all required safety policies and procedures
• Works actively to maintain housekeeping responsibilities
• Maintains lockout certifications as assigned
• Actively participate and positively contribute to the safety
program
• Report all safety incidents (including near misses)
• Complete LASER for any upset condition or procedure
• Ensure Arauco exercises responsible environmental
stewardship in all areas of our business
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Ability to move freely throughout the facility, including
climbing stairs and ladders, and navigating around equipment
and machinery
• Ability to bend, stoop, and crouch as necessary to inspect and
maintain equipment
• Capability to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing
up to 50 pounds
• Ability to perform physical tasks that involve lifting, pushing,
pulling, and carrying heavy objects
• Endurance to stand and walk for extended periods, often in
environments with dust, chemicals, high noise levels and
varying temperatures
WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Work is performed in a manufacturing environment, which
may involve exposure to noise, dust, and varying
temperatures
• Requires physical activity, including standing, climbing, and
lifting
• Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory
• May require working irregular hours, including nights,
weekends, and holidays, and being on call for emergencies
