From hockey to hikes, we love to get out and enjoy the winter wonderland.
One way that more of us are enjoying the winter months is with horse-drawn sleigh rides. These lovely trips are perfect for anyone that wants to wrap up in a comfy blanket, bring along a hot drink and enjoy the winter landscape. It’s the perfect combination of old school fun with the comforts of the modern world.
Why Horse-Drawn Sleigh Rides?
If you have never been on a horse-drawn sleigh ride, then perhaps you have been on something similar. Maybe a hay ride? Dogsled rides have recently become particularly popular in Jasper and Banff national parks these past few years. But there is something truly unique and lovely about horse-drawn sleigh rides in particular.
With a horse-drawn sleigh, you can have a lot more room for comfort and even fit an entire family in a sleigh for your trip. The ride itself can also be a lot smoother than expected. There is also, of course, the thrill of being pulled by an elegant steed.
The main goal of going on a horse-drawn sleigh ride is being able to relax in the outdoors and enjoy the scenery. It’s a time to unplug and simply take in the beauty that we sometimes take for granted.
Where to Go for Sleigh Rides
Many local companies who offer horse-drawn sleigh rides provide set trips that can give you amazing views that are quite literally off the beaten track. In fact, you can find sleigh rides that will take you to places you simply cannot reach any other way. While they are popular in the Rockies, you can find plenty within driving distance of the major cities that can take you back to simpler times, or let you see your hometown in a whole new light.
People on the Prairies love to take advantage of the warm summer months but that doesn’t mean we should hide away all winter long. In fact, there are plenty of fun activities that you and your family can do all throughout the winter. Instead of staying inside, why not enjoy an evening in a horse-drawn sleigh, taking in the beautiful winter landscapes that only the Prairies can provide?
