Okotoks author Laurie J. Carmichael, who has written a pair of adult thrillers, is debuting her first children’s chapter story under the name Daisy Belle Kling.
The Longtail Brothers Misadventures -- A New Home, suitable for ages seven to 12, tells the story of two mice living in the Southwood Library in Calgary.
The Longtail Brothers are happy with their lives until they face unexpected challenges that force them to leave.
Now, the mice brothers are looking for a new home. They decide to live in Heritage Park but worry about how they will cope in this strange new world.
Carmichael has several book signings planned this month:
• Saturday, Dec. 7, 1 to 3 p.m. at Yooneek Books in Okotoks
• Saturday, Dec. 14, 1 to 3 p.m. at Spisherbocker Books in Diamond Valley
• Sunday, Dec. 15, 1 to 4 p.m. at Heritage Park Toy Shoppe
Her previous work includes A Complicated Goodbye and A Hiding Amongst the Clouds. In A Complicated Goodbye, she writes about courage and resilience as her main character, Rebecca Adams, is a survivor of loss, betrayal and domestic violence. The sequel, A Hiding Amongst the Clouds, follows Rebecca’s journey as she attempts to rebuild her life.
The final unnamed chapter of the trilogy is due for release next spring.
Carmichael lives in Okotoks with her husband, Daryl, and her two chihuahuas. She is the proud parent of three adult children: Dana, Mitchell and Liam.
