The Oscars are coming to Okotoks.
The Okotoks Film Festival is hosting its annual Oscar Nominated Short Films screening from March 1-3.
"It's near and dear to my heart," said Katie Fournell, founder and director of the Okotoks Film Society. "I love the Oscar shorts, and [the screening] is a really cool experience because it's the only way you can actually easily see all the films in one of the Oscar categories.
"There's kind of a phenomenon that seems to happen with our audiences when they come to the Oscar shorts. Suddenly the 'short film' categories become the categories they care the most about during the entirety of the Oscars. Best Picture, eh, who cares."
The screenings will be held just over a week before the Oscars ceremony on Monday, March 11.
"With the short films, they can see all five films in each of the short film categories, and that makes them more attached to it," said Fournell, referring to the categories of live-action, animation and documentary.
"It's also cool because these are the filmmakers that nobody recognizes, there's no celebrities involved in the project, and so it's really cool because they are the next generation of filmmakers and they are the ones who are gonna get the big films next year."
The event will be held at Okotoks Cinemas, and tickets are $10 for one day or $15 for all three.
