The Call of the West Museum in High River has announced the completion of its current project: the restoration of a rare Haynes automobile.
Museum volunteers have worked over two years to completely dismantle, sand blast, rebuild the wood-framed body, overhaul the powertrain to running condition and finish the car to factory standards.
Haynes built cars in Kokomo, Indiana from 1910 to 1925 that were considered high-end luxury automobiles. Today, very few still exist, so much so that few people recognize the name Haynes as an automobile.
Located on the High River Agricultural Society grounds, the Call of the West Museum is based on the history of the influence Ford and the oil companies had on the agricultural way of life during the first half of the last century.
The museum’s collection also includes Model T cars and trucks, oil and gas signs and related memorabilia, farm equipment, antiques and much more.
The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is by donation.
