It doesn’t look like this cold snap will end by the weekend.
Forecasts earlier in the week had the deep freeze starting to turn the other way by Sunday with a high of –20C, followed by a much more tolerable high of –10C on Monday.
Environment Canada now has Sunday’s high pegged at –30 and Monday’s high at –23C.
Temperatures are expected to moderate by Tuesday (-8C), but dip somewhat on Wednesday (-14C) and Thursday (-13C) of next week.
The Weather Network’s long-range forecast calls for significantly warmer temperatures by next weekend and the following week, with daytime highs around 0C and overnight lows at –5C.
Before we get there, however, we’ll have to endure daytime highs of –33C today and –35C tomorrow, with overnight lows dipping to –42C.
The sun is expected to shine for the next week with only Tuesday showing a chance of flurries.
