Students of Cameron Crossing School had a June 3 graduation ceremony to celebrate and get ready for their next steps in the future.

Graduates Sophia Cooper, Dylan Pratt, Carson Ross, Jaden Smith and Keira Witte, were all congratulated by their teachers and principal Jeff Mason at the amphitheatre outside the school.

The graduation ceremony began with a prayer by Knowledge Keeper Allie Lefthand, followed by a slideshow with pictures of the graduates and then some words from the teachers. Cameron Crossing is an outreach high school that offers alternative educational methods for students who find it difficult to fit into traditional school settings.

Michael Dunlop, a teacher at the Cameron Crossing, gave advice to the students and told them to never remain stuck and to push forward in difficult situations no matter how tough it gets.

The students had their graduate walk after, where they received their certificates, turned their tassels and tossed their caps symbolizing their transition from a student to a graduate.

Shanndie Pratt, a parent of one of the graduates, spoke about the extreme lengths the school goes to provide an amazing learning environment for the students and the additional support the teachers give to the parents.

“This isn’t a school, it is a family,” said Pratt.

Pratt talked about the difficulties her family went through when she was expecting another child and how the teachers were always there to help them out no matter what.

Dylan Pratt, gave a wonderful speech about the hardships the students faced and how they overcame them. He expressed they were the ones who decide what course their life goes on.

At the end of the ceremony, the school provided everyone with a glass of apple cider and held a toast to all the graduating students wishing them the best for the future. The students and family were welcome to go inside the school for refreshments after the graduation ceremony was over.
