Mark Thomson’s efforts to raise money to make his church in Okotoks more accessible include a new Christmas CD.

For several years, Thomson has been raising money to install an elevator lift at Grace Lutheran Church to make the building’s basement accessible to all.

“People have been very generous with donations,” Thomson said.

To help raise funds, Thomson is selling his newest CD, The Joy of Christmas, that includes 10 Christmas songs.

The CD is $10 and is available from Thomson when he is playing music at places like the D’Arcy Safeway, Mission Thrift Store or other spots around town.

Thomson also makes cat and dog treats for $5 per bag, and 25 per cent of all proceeds go to the church for the elevator lift.

He has spearheaded several fundraisers on behalf of the church accessibility project, including silent auctions, concerts and garage sales, and said raising money for the elevator lift is like a full-time job.

The church hall, washrooms and Sunday school rooms are located in the basement, and people with mobility issues are unable to take part in fellowship activities that are held in the hall, he said.

In total, about $140,000 is needed to install an elevator lift at the church.

Christmas CDs can also be purchased by emailing Thomson at [email protected]
