With the earlier than normal snow melt and uncharacteristically hot spring weather, water levels in the Sheep River are lower than usual at this time of year.

Latest reservoir monitoring indicates that levels are between 75 and 85 per cent, which moves the Town’s water conservation efforts to Stage 2 – Careful Use.

“We’re proactively monitoring river flows and adjusting well production accordingly, but we still need your help,” said water service manager Davey Robertson. “At this point, we’re asking residents to help alleviate pressure on our wells by following the outdoor watering schedule and reducing water use whenever possible.”

Like many municipalities across Canada, Okotoks has an outdoor watering schedule to help maintain water supply levels and balance the water reserves available to meet the community’s daily needs.

For residents concerned about their gardens, hand watering is always an option and may be done at any time when using a container or manual trigger nozzle to water flowers, vegetable gardens and newly planted trees or shrubs until they are established.
