The Town of Okotoks’ Environmental Education Centre hosts Nature Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. where activities focus on a different theme weekly. Upcoming topics include: Mad Scientist (Oct. 4), Spiders (Oct. 11) and Spooky Wildlife (Oct. 18). okotoks.ca         

       

Weekly Jam Sessions at the Okotoks and District Seniors Club are held on Fridays from 7 to 9 p.m. Musicians and singers are welcome as well as those that want to listen, sing along or dance to the tunes. Entrance fee is $2.              

                

A new season of Social Nights at DeWinton Hall begins on Friday, Oct 4. Learn a fun, 15-minute line dance, followed by an hour-long two-step lesson. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and lessons begin at 7 p.m. sharp. Tickets are $27 per person, and available by calling 403-938-2525 or by emailing [email protected]

 

A Halloween Costume Swap will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Environmental Education Centre. Bring your gently used costume to the Town’s free costume exchange and find something new to wear this Halloween for you and your kids. okotoks.ca  

 

The Okotoks Legion will hold meat draws (nine) every Saturday at the Elks Hall. Doors open at noon for a perogie meal. Tickets are $1 and draws run from 1 to 3:30 p.m.          

             

Millarville Historical Society is hosting an inaugural Member's Buffet Dinner on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 4 p.m. at the Millarville Racetrack Hall. Cost is $30 per person. Bruce Masterman, author of Paradise Preserved, will be the featured speaker, sharing information about the Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation Area. Okotoks Fire & Rescue is kicking off Fire Prevention Week on Sunday, Oct. 6 with an open house at Fire Station 2 on Woodhaven Drive from 10 a.m. to noon. Check out the fire trucks, meet the crew and chat about fire safety. okotoks.ca 

 
The Okotoks Public Library is hosting a Teen Halloween Workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Free session for ages 13 to 17 will see participants delve into the world of special effects makeup. Registration required at okotokslibrary.ca.

The Okotoks Public Library hosts Movie Night for Adults on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. On Thursday, Oct. 10, there will be a free screening of 1917, a First World War drama. okotokslibrary.ca

Age-Friendly Speaker Series will see Laura Thurber-Larsen (RSW) share helpful tips around navigating Alberta Health Services as well as information about advance care planning documents. Yuk Yuk’s on Tour comes to the Old Church Theatre in Okotoks on Friday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. Headlined by Brittany Lyseng, a nationally touring stand-up comedian, writer and podcaster, the show will also feature Troo Knot and MC Anton Matyushin. The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, Calgary Centre will present Astronomy of the Winter Sky on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Okotoks Public Library. Learn which planets are visible and explore the various deep sky objects in free, hour-long sessions that start at 1 and 2:30 p.m. okotokslibrary.ca 

      

The annual Dewinton Hall Haunted House and Halloween Party will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. Ghouls and goblins can dance the night away, and enjoy healthy snacks and games, while those feeling brave can take their chance in the haunted house. Admission is $5 per person. Also accepting non-perishable items for food drive supporting Okotoks Food Bank. 

 

The Foothills Scrapbookers are holding Croptoberfest, an autumn/Halloween scrapbook retreat, on Oct. 19-20 at Best Western Okotoks with option to stay over. Light food options will be served through the weekend with coffee and tea. Contact Tammy at 403-899-3275.  

  

The Maria Dunn Trio will perform at the Old Church Theatre on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. Dunn draws deeply on the folk tradition of storytelling through song, melding North American roots music with her Scottish-Irish heritage. Tickets are $35 in advance, $45 at the door. okotoks.ca 

 

A Repair Café will be held at the Viking Rentals Centre on Saturday, Oct. 26 from noon to 4 p.m. Items eligible to be repaired include electronics, small appliances, toys, housewares and more. okotoks.ca

The Sheep River parkrun, a free weekly five-kilometre run/walk, is held every Saturday at 9 a.m. The loop begins and ends at the picnic shelter in Sheep River Park, and is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. sheepriverparkrun.ca                     

                      
You can record, edit and upload your own podcasts at the Sheep River Library in Diamond Valley in its soundproofed recording space. OM Chanting is held at the Okotoks Public Library every Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. It is an ancient, dynamic meditation technique which helps us realign with nature and existence. Foothills Writers Group (formerly the Indie Author Group Okotoks) meets on the third Thursday of the month at the Okotoks Public Library from 6 to 8 p.m. The group is a community of local authors whose goal is to encourage and support writers during their creative journey.
