Fire Prevention Week set to launch in Okotoks

Fire Prevention Week runs virtually from Oct. 3-9
Okotoks Fire Dept 0004

The Okotoks Fire Department (OFD) is encouraging residents to “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety” during Fire Prevention Week, which runs from Oct. 3-9 and will be celebrated virtually.

All week long, there will be opportunities for residents of all ages to enter contests, participate in virtual activities, and watch videos to learn the sounds of fire safety.

The OFD will kick off the week by asking residents to submit their Burning Questions. Families are encouraged to send their questions about fire safety and fire prevention to [email protected] by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5, for a chance to win a fun prize. Be sure to check back as Fire Chief Trevor Brice answers all the Burning Questions on Friday, Oct. 8.

Throughout the week, the OFD will be featuring contests for all ages with a chance to win a variety of cool prizes, including kids’ baskets filled with fire-inspired books, toys and more:

· Name that sound! contest for adults – what are your alarms telling you?

· Plan your home fire escape contest for kids

· Reading with Okotoks Fire Department contest for kids

· #KnowExactlyWhere contest for youth

· Winners will be announced Saturday, Oct. 9.

Fire Chief Trevor Brice is also challenging Okotoks to “Get Loud!” and test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms today and regularly according to the manufacturer’s instructions to learn the sound alarms make and ensure the batteries work. Knowing the different sounds your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms make can save you, your loved ones, and your home. Challenge your family and friends to Get Loud too!
