The Foothills Kinettes' 'Diamonds in the Rough' tree sparkled and shined above the competition to take home the fan-favourite trophy from the Sheep River Health Trust's ninth annual Avenue of Trees fundraiser.
The event ran from Nov. 18 to Dec. 14 and saw 27 trees displayed at the Okotoks Best Western Plus in support of the health trust. Patrons had the chance to tour the trees in person and vote for their favourites while snapping a photo with Saint Nick.
Voting for the fan-favourite was also conducted on the SRHT Facebook page.
Adorned with sparkly, silver baubles, delicate metallic tulle and icicle-inspired ornaments, the Foothills Kinettes came out on top and were awarded best in show for their decorating efforts.
Kinette member Krista Conrad said the group's tree was inspired by their 2022 gala theme, Diamonds in the Rough, which is currently set for March of next year.
The group is grateful for their win, which also with a $250 Sobeys gift card to pay forward. Conrad said that lots of individuals are accessing community support services around the holidays, and so the group has decided to wait until the new year to deliver their prize to someone in need.
"We decided that we might hold on to it for the time being and then see where the help is needed after Christmas," she said. "So we're just going to see, when the dust settles who needs help the most and we will put it toward that."
The group was also awarded the prize for 'Christmas Elegance.'
