A local non-profit is continuing to grow.
The Foothills Advocacy in Motion Society is opening a second location in Okotoks in response to increased demand for its services.
"We support adults with developmental disabilities, mostly in the areas of employment services and home living services," said executive director Gerry McCallum. "I like to say we help people live and work."
The organization, which McCallum said supports about 65 adults with developmental disabilities in Okotoks, has been looking for a new location since 2022.
"We've been seeing real interest in our program, and so we've been looking for some additional space, and we were able to get a deal on the building."
The new location is located at 325 Woodgate Rd., the former site of the Okotoks RCMP detachment. The small yet strategically-located building was used in this capacity from about 1997 to 2014, when it was sold to private owners as office space for lease.
"We're really excited about that location because it's very central," said McCallum. "There's a lot of visibility just off of [Southridge Drive].
"We're really happy with the visibility that our agency will have, and we're really hopeful that we will be able to meet the needs of more people looking for support."
The organization has offices on Stockton Avenue in Okotoks as well as locations in High River and Strathmore, and recently received approval to open a location in Airdrie.
"You know, we're always looking for job coaches, residential care providers and employers, people that would be interested in hiring a person with a developmental disability," said McCallum. "Things are really blooming with our company."
A grand opening for the new Okotoks location is tentatively scheduled for April 1.
