Environment Canada has issued a freezing drizzle warning for Okotoks and parts of Foothills County.

Ahead of the Family Day long weekend, Environment Canada has issued a freezing drizzle advisory for Okotoks and areas of Foothills County.

Just after 10 o'clock this morning the alert was in effect for Cayley, High River, Aldersyde, Turner Valley and Black Diamond.

Other affected areas include De Winton, Priddis, Brown-Lowery Provincial Park, Claresholm and Stavely, Nanton, Parkland and Bragg Creek and Tsuu T'ina Reserve in Rocky View County.

Freezing drizzle accumulates as small drops that immediately freeze upon contact with a surface like asphalt. It can create slipperly conditions, similar to freezing rain.

Motorists should exercise caution when travelling.
