National fundraising run held at new location in Okotoks

Okotoks' Terry Fox Run brought participants to a new location on Sunday morning.

The annual run moved to the Sheep River Park this year where participants completed three routes – 1.5, 3 and 5 kilometres – that all start and finish at the picnic shelter adjacent to the playground.

Those taking part in the event were encouraged to raise funds for live-saving cancer research through sponsors.

Former world champion curler David Murdoch, an Okotoks resident, was the celebrity starter. Murdoch, a two-time world champion and Olympic silver medallist for Scotland, is now the high performance director for Curling Canada. Following the run, Fountain Tire sponsored a hot dog barbecue for participants.

Now in its 44th year, the Terry Fox Run has raised over $850 million for cancer research and will be held in more than 600 communities across Canada this year.
