It's no April Fools joke...gas prices are down in Okotoks.
The price at the pump dropped on April 1, after the consumer carbon tax was removed by Liberal Prime Minister Mark Carney ahead of a federal election later this month.
The tax added about 18 cents per litre to the cost of fuel at the pump.
Drivers will notice the change in Okotoks, where gas is hovering at about 138.4 cents a litre, compared to 155.9 cents per litre at many stations earlier this week.
Under the carbon tax system, eligible Canadians got rebates designed to return the proceeds from the fuel charge back into their pockets. With the removal of the federal fuel charge, final Canada Carbon Rebate payments will start to go out on April 22.
In Alberta, a family of four will get $456 for the final rebate, while rural residents qualify for 20 per cent more.
Carney said he'd replace the consumer carbon tax with other incentives to encourage greener choices.
