A heat warning remains in place for the Foothills region, but cooler weather is expected for the weekend.

Okotoks is looking at a high temperature of 27 C on Thursday with increasing wind gusting up to 70 kilometres an hour, and there is a 30 per cent chance of showers this afternoon and evening, Environment Canada says.

Highs are forecast at a slightly cooler 25 C on Friday and Saturday, with single-digit lows cooling things down overnight.

Wildfire smoke will remain in the area throughout the day, and an air quality advisory remains in effect across the region.

Calgary’s Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) is 5, or moderate risk, but is expected to become high risk or very high risk, or 10+, by Thursday night, Environment Canada says.
