A Canadian-owned hotel chain opened a new location in High River as part of an expansion into southern Alberta.
Canalta Hotels announced the opening of hotels in High River and Cochrane in a media release on April 2.
The High River location is on 13 Avenue Southeast and was previously a Ramada.
“It is our pleasure to welcome the Cochrane and High River hotels to the Canalta brand,” said company vice-president Brooke Christianson.
“Canalta is a great choice for Canadians staying local and travelling Western Canada this summer, and we’re thrilled to now offer our exceptional service to guests at these two additional locations,” Christianson said.
Canalta Hotels operates more than 40 properties in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba and was founded over 50 years ago, with headquarters in Drumheller.
The company also announced a new sustainability-focused loyalty program.
The Million Trees Movement’s goal is to plant one million trees on behalf of guests by the end of 2027.
Trees will be planted in northern Saskatchewan, and a one-night stay earns enough points to plant one tree, the company said.
“We are creating an opportunity for our guests to use the points they earn to make a positive sustainable difference,” said Canalta marketing director Ryan Semchuk.
The program is aimed at people who might not use traditional loyalty programs and can help travellers offset their carbon footprint, the company said.
Guests can also use their points to redeem gift cards, earn free stays and enjoy exclusive perks, the company said.
