Bertie’s General Store in Diamond Valley is closing its doors on March 30.

It’s the last weekend to visit a unique collection of businesses in Diamond Valley.

Bertie’s General Store has been a fixture on Government Road for almost eight years, but the operators are celebrating their final weekend and closing the doors on Sunday, March 30.

The general store houses Tender Living Farms and Working Blues Vintage (formerly Wild North Trading Company), and sells vintage clothing, hand-crafted apothecary products, handmade goods and vinyl records.

For the final weekend, the store will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, March 29 and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 30.

Bertie’s General Store is in the historic Blakeman building that was built in the early 1900s and is the oldest original building in the southern Alberta community.

The building will be listed for sale this spring, and the business operators want to put more time and energy into their own projects, said Isis Velkova, of Tender Living Farms.

After the general store closes, Velkova plans to try out a new business idea for seasonal pop-up-style retail, with each pop-up segment featuring goods that align with the season.

The first Tender Living Provisions pop-up is expected to run from May 9 to June 29.

Velkova said she’ll stay in the historic building for as long as possible, finding alternative spaces or a permanent home when needed.

More information about the closing weekend is available on Bertie’s General Store Facebook and social media pages.
