The Okotoks Public Library is part of a coalition of libraries that have come together to make a difference through the Library Giving Day campaign.
On Tuesday, April 1, libraries across the country will unite for a one-day fundraising event aimed at ensuring libraries continue to serve as a cornerstone of education, imagination and connection.
This special day offers library lovers an opportunity to support something that has a profound impact on communities — children's libraries. Donations will help provide essential resources and books that ignite a lifelong love of reading and learning in children.
Reading to children is one of the most powerful ways to nurture their cognitive and emotional development. Just one book a day can expose a child to over 290,000 words by the time they enter kindergarten.
This simple daily habit lays the foundation for language skills, sparks imagination and strengthens the bond between parent and child.
However, with an estimated one million children in Canada having weak literacy skills, the need for early literacy support is critical. By providing free access to books, early literacy programs and a supportive, welcoming environment, libraries play a crucial role in helping families nurture and develop their child's early literacy skills.
On Library Giving Day, supporters can donate online at okotokslibrary.ca or in-person during library hours.
The Okotoks Public Library is a registered charity and donations of $20 and more receive a receipt for income tax purposes.
