Yooneek Books is collaborating with Candlewick Press to launch the second annual ‘Where’s Waldo in Okotoks’ campaign on Canada Day.
For the entirety of the month, 22 businesses around town will have little cardboard cutouts of Waldo hidden in their stores. Players who find enough Waldos will be entered to win prizes.
“It's just nice for the businesses to showcase some of the stuff that they do, and what they provide for our community,” said Rae-Lynne Byerley, co-owner of Yooneek Books on McRae Street in Olde Towne.
Participating businesses will have stamp cards available and as players find Waldos, they will be able to scratch boxes off their cards.
Once participants collect at least 10 stamps or signatures, they can take their stamp card to Yooneek Books, and the first 125 seekers will receive a Waldo sticker.
Participants who collect 20 stamps or signatures can take their card to Yooneek Books to get a sticker, plus be entered in a draw for multiple prizes.
Businesses for Waldo to hide at include: An Honest Room, Boy o Boy flowers by Nikolle, Tailgate Mercantile Co., Retro Oasis, Paintworks Art Studio, Okotoks Museum & Archives, Tipper Records, Okotoks Cinemas, R.F.G Meat and Seafood, Main Street Market & More, Adanac Liquidation, Okotoks Natural Foods, Spotted Sage Crystal & Bead Shop, Unwind Wool Shop, Big Beaver Brewing, Supper Studio, Monkey Mountain Toys & Games, Sweet Threads on Main, Okotoks Public Library, Loop Kids, The Duchess on Elma and, of course, Yooneek Books.
“It's a good way to get to know our community and see some of the different companies that are here,” Byerley said.
The search for Waldo ends on Wednesday, July 31 and prizes will be drawn on Friday, Aug. 2 live on Yooneek Books’ Instagram.
