Okotokians have the opportunity to vote on designs they would most like to see decorate the outside of three public park washrooms.
The Town of Okotoks is collaborating with the Foothills Composite High School/Alberta High School of the Fine Arts on the third Paint-a-Potty project which will see students design and paint murals on three of the Town’s outdoor concrete washrooms.
This year’s theme revolves around sports with a connection to the Alberta Summer Games. Students' designs emphasize the healthy value that sports, community and art have to offer.
“These murals will emphasize the bright spirit of Okotoks while showing off the talent of the youth in this community to the visitors of the Summer Games," AHSFA visual arts teacher Michelle Smyth said in a press release.
Residents can get involved by voting for their favourites.
Nine options are available for viewing on the Town's website, alongside a survey which allows for three votes.
The concrete washrooms up for painting are located at: Bill Robertson Park, Kinsmen Park at McRae Street West and Sheep River Park.
“This project helps enrich our community through public art,” said culture and heritage team leader Allan Boss. “This is a great way to create unique spaces, engage the community, and have students sharing their talents to beautify the town. It’s an all-around win.”
Voting will be open until March 26 at 4 p.m.
The winning designs will be announced in April and the mural painting will begin in May. The painting is scheduled for completion by the end of the 2023 school year.
