Police warning businesses after southern Alberta break-in spree

Three suspects are targeting convenience stores, gas stations and other businesses in rural Alberta.

Police are asking property/business owners to take extra precautions as a result of a string of break and enters across southern Alberta this week. 

The suspects are targeting rural Alberta convenience stores, gas stations, cannabis stores, vape stores, sporting goods stores, liquor stores and grocery stores.   

The RCMP’s Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit is investigating the break-and-enters that occurred between April 6 and 9.  

RCMP are asking business owners to take extra precautions, such as ensuring cash is stored off site, premises are secured and security systems are fully operational. 

The most recent incident occurred in Bassano on April 9 at approximately 2:45 a.m. at Bassano Family Foods. The front door glass was smashed and three suspects entered the store. 

They were last seen driving a white Ford F350 or similar Chevrolet 3500 flat deck truck with a wooden box. The suspects are described as:  

1) Average build, face covered, wearing black hooded sweater, black pants and white belt 

2) Thin build, face covered, wearing light coloured hoody with black coloured shoulders  

3) Thin build, face covered with red bandana, dark blue jacket, black track pants 

Most cases involve suspects targeting cash, cigarettes and lottery scratch tickets.  

Various vehicles have been used throughout the course of the break-and-enters. The RCMP encourages the public to report any suspicious vehicles or activity to police.
