The Town of Okotoks mailed property tax notices to residents on May 29.

Property tax notices were mailed out by the Town of Okotoks on May 29, and all assessed property owners are now deemed to have received their tax notices.

Payment is due by June 30.

The Town approved a residential tax hike of 4.6 per cent when the 2024 budget was passed, meaning a homeowner with a property assessed at $551,000 would pay about $10.30 more in tax every month.

However, once requisitions were factored in, the real property tax increase is 6.8 per cent.

Requisitions climbed by $1.7 million, and most of the increase is attributed to a rise in education property tax that is sent to the Government of Alberta.

Mayor Tanya Thorn said earlier that it means property owners in Okotoks are paying $1.6 million more for education than they did last year.

The increase in requisitions will add about $130 to the provincial requisition portion of the average property tax bill.
