A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued in southern Alberta Monday night.
The warning was issued by Environment Canada on Aug. 5 at 7:22 p.m. as its meteorologists are tracking a dangerous thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to golf ball size hail and torrential rain.
This thunderstorm is located 5 km north of Diamond Valley, and is heading to the east at 30 km/h. Strong winds may occur ahead and south of the thunderstorm. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.
The alert is in effect for Okotoks, DeWinton, Foothills County and High River along with Calgary.
