With the first snowfall of the season now in the books, it’s that time of year again to launch the Snow Heroes program.

The community-based snow clearing program runs Nov. 1 to April 30 and is open to anyone in Okotoks who has no one in the household able to shovel and needs snow clearing assistance.

Okotoks residents in need of snow shovelling assistance can contact the Okotoks Family Resource Centre for a Snow Hero sign to display on their front yard, indicating they need a helping hand this winter.

When it snows, community members are encouraged to look for Snow Hero signs in their neighbourhood and shovel snow for those who need the support.

Snow Heroes can be adults, youth, families, sports teams, church groups, etc. There is no need to sign up, just grab a shovel and help.

A Snow Hero is especially helpful for older adults, people with limited mobility and anyone else needing help, even on a temporary basis.

The Town of Okotoks advises that placement of a Snow Hero sign is not a guarantee that snow will be removed. As well, it said the program does not apply to those looking for snow clearing assistance while on vacation.

Learn more about the Snow Heroes program by calling the Okotoks Family Resource Centre at 403-995-2626.
