Town councillor's daughter found dead in Calgary home

Condolences and notes of support and love are pouring in for Okotoks town councilor Ed Sands and his wife Debbie after their daughter was found dead in a Calgary home early Friday morning.

Condolences and notes of support and love are pouring in for Okotoks town councilor Ed Sands and his wife Debbie after their daughter was found dead in a Calgary home early Friday morning.

Debbie Sands wrote on her Facebook site that she hopes her daughter has found peace.

"To our darling Amy, may you find peace now," she wrote. "We will love you forever."

Ed Sands thanked people for their outpouring of support and said the family is trying to work through it, saying they are in shock.

"Thank you to all our dear friends for your kind words and prayers on Amy's tragic passing," he wrote. "The support is truly appreciated."

Sands moved to Okotoks more than 20 years ago with his family, which also includes another daughter and a son. He has been on town council for many years and also works as a chiropractor in the town.

Amy's friends, including some she attended high school with at Foothills Composite have posted her picture and are expressing grief at the loss. Amy Sands graduated from the Composite high school in 2002 and participated in the Mainstage production, according to friends.

She was found dead in a home in the community of Dover by emergency responders who were called to the neighbourhood at 6:30 a.m. by 911 calls reporting possible gunshots.

Calgary police services homicide unit is investigating.
