Trail: Foran Grade
Difficulty: Easy
Length: 7 km loop
Ascent: 315 metres
Trailhead: Small pull-off 1.6 km west of the winter gates on Highway 546 (west of Turner Valley) on the north side of the highway.
Description: Hike this trail in mid-July to enjoy a carpet of wildflowers in the lower meadows. This easy hike boasts portions along the ridge that present stunning views of the Sheep River Valley, Windy Point and the snow-capped mountains. An easy 6.4 km loop can be made by descending Windy Point Trail and returning to the trailhead via the Sheep Trail. You can begin this hike by either taking the trailhead on the north side of the road to complete a counter-clockwise trek or by crossing the highway to a trail that leads through the south meadow and travels west above the Sheep River. The trail eventually swings back up to the main road. Cross the road and take the trail that travels clockwise back to the original turnout.
Reminder: Take adequate water, food and clothing in the event of sudden weather changes. Ensure someone knows where you’re going and when you’ll be back in the event you get lost or injured. Hiking alone is not recommended.
