VIDEO: Okotoks gives sledge hockey a try

The Cederstrand Foundation hosts event at Okotoks Centennial Arenas to let politicians, firefighters and others give sledge hockey a try.

Okotoks residents, officials, and responders got a chance to try out sledge hockey last weekend.

Chris Cederstrand, founder of the Cederstrand Foundation and above-the-leg amputee, was at Okotoks Centennial Arenas on Nov. 25 to give Town council and regional firefighters, as well as the public, a taste of sledge hockey.

For one little girl, Mira Penney, the experience gave her a boost. Unable to play many sports due to cancer treatment reducing her leg mobility, her parents were happy to see the joy sledge hockey brings her.

"From the moment she strapped the sled on, she just lit up," said her dad, Aaron Penney.

"She used to play soccer and really likes sports in general, so being able to get out there and have that extra mobility how that her legs don't work as well is huge.

"As soon as she got on the ice, she just took off. It was crazy."
