A windy Thursday is expected to bring cold temperatures to Okotoks and area this weekend, with wind warnings in place for some parts of Foothills County.
Environment Canada’s forecast is calling for wind gusts up to 90 km/h in wind prone areas today. There’s a 30 per cent chance of flurries or rain showers this afternoon with the high expected to reach 8C.
There’s a 60 per cent chance of flurries late this evening and overnight with the wind chill hitting –16C.
Wind warnings are in effect for southern and eastern portions of Foothills County, and a combination of strong wind and snow may cause poor visibility in some areas due to blowing snow, Environment Canada said.
Winds are expected to continue tomorrow morning but taper off by the afternoon when the daytime high will reach –5C.
It gets even colder on the weekend as the high on Saturday (–13C) and Sunday (–15C) drops well below seasonal.
Conditions normalize on Monday with a high of –5C, and then turn even warmer as the long-range forecast has highs of 3C on Tuesday and 2C on Wednesday.
