Runners, walkers and rollers will be taking to the pathways of Sheep River Park this Sunday (Sept. 15) morning for the local edition of the Terry Fox Run.
The run has been moved to the riverside park this year where participants can choose from three routes – 1.5, 3 and 5 kilometres – that all start and finish at the picnic shelter adjacent to the playground.
Former world champion curler David Murdoch has agreed to be the run’s celebrity starter. Murdoch, a two-time world champion and Olympic silver medallist for Scotland, is now the high performance director for Curling Canada and an Okotoks resident.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the run gets underway at 10 a.m.
At the conclusion of the run, Fountain Tire is sponsoring a hot dog barbecue for all participants.
Runners, who can register online at terryfox.org or on the morning of the run, are encouraged to raise funds through sponsors.
Now in its 44th year, the Terry Fox Run has raised over $850 million for cancer research and will be held in more than 600 communities across Canada this year.
