Fed Biz stands at Highfield Stock Farm in Aldersyde.

This year’s Alberta Thoroughbred Sale will once again have a distinctly Fed Biz flavour.

The celebrated stallion standing at Highfield Stock Farm in Aldersyde will, for the second straight year, have far and away the most yearlings go on the auction block.

There will be 19 Fed Biz offspring in the sale that starts at 3 p.m. today (Friday, Sept. 20) at Westerner Park in Red Deer.

No other stallion has more than eight yearlings in the sale.

The yearlings in this year’s sale are from Fed Biz’s second Alberta-bred crop. Last year he had 24 offspring in the sale from his first crop in this province.

After finishing racing in 2014, Fed Biz began his stallion career in Kentucky but was relocated to Alberta in early 2021 when Highfield owner Adrian Munro purchased him.

During his stallion career, Fed Biz has sired almost 500 horses of racing age that have collectively earned more than $22 million.

Sired by champion Giant’s Causeway, Fed Biz sold for $950,000 as a yearling. Trained by the legendary Bob Baffert, he won more than three-quarters of a million dollars racing primarily on the tough Southern California circuit, including setting two track records at the famed Del Mar racetrack north of San Diego.
