The wagons roll into High River this weekend following the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.
The Battle of the Foothills, the World Professional Chuckwagons Association's annual stop at the High River Ag Grounds, returns from July 25-28 with four days of racing and a Saturday night cabaret.
"I'm stoked, I love High River," said Dayton Sutherland, a Foothills County driver. "It's kind of our hometown show. We stay right outside of dad's, I went to high school in Okotoks and we get lots of friends and family to show up.
"It's quite a bit different, more relaxed than Stampede, and back to four wagons. That's what I'm excited for, to get back to what I think is real wagon racing."
Sutherland enters the competition on the heels of a Top Rooke Driver Award at the Calgary Stampede's Cowboys Rangeland Derby.
No one will be wheeling into High River with more momentum than one of its own.
High Riverite Jason Glass enters the Battle of the Foothills as the Rangeland Derby champion following a remarkably consistent run of 10 days at the Stampede.
Glass is sixth in the WPCA world standings, Sutherland sits 13th with Blackie's Jordie Fike in 34th.
Saskatchewan driver Jamie Laboucane is the defending champion in the event.
The July 25-27 races starts at 7 p.m. with the final day of action kicking off at 4 p.m. Gates open two hours before race time.
The cabaret follows the Saturday night heats.
