A change in opposition created no change in form for the Bisons.
The Okotoks Carstar Bisons (8-0-0) went out of division to extend their season-long win streak to eight games with convincing home triumphs over the Northern Division’s Airdrie Thunder and Sylvan Lake Wranglers on Oct. 7 and 9 at the Murray Arena.
On Friday, Okotoks blanked Airdrie with a return in goal highlighting the victory.
Layton Draper made 25 saves for the shutout in his first game back with the Bisons.
A 21-game winner during Okotoks’ championship season in 2021-22, Draper started this campaign with the Columbia Valley Rockies in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.
Rookie forward Kaleb Schuller had two goals and an assists, freshman blueliner Evan Bright posted a goal and two helpers with Simon Smith-Burness and Daniel Tainton also finding the back of the net.
Ten Okotoks skaters registered at least a point on the night.
On Sunday, Okotoks rode a three-goal middle frame to corral the Wranglers by a 4-1 score.
Schuller scored again along with tallies from rookie centre Easton Dean and veteran forwards Alaister Standen and Adam Kirkpatrick.
In goal, Dylan Fries cooked up a 17-save performance to improve to 4-0 on the season.
It’s back to Southern Division action this week for the herd with the Strathmore Wheatland Kings visiting the Murray Arena on Oct. 14, an 8 p.m. start, before Okotoks makes its second trip of the campaign to Medicine Hat the following night.
