It’s a collision course at the top of the standings this weekend in Okotoks.
Something has to give on Friday when the Heritage Junior Hockey League division leaders face off with the Sylvan Lake Wranglers putting a 17-game win streak on the line against a Carstar Okotoks Bisons squad on a nine-game points streak.
Okotoks, which did not lose in regulation during November with an 8-0-1 mark with 54 goals for and just 19 against, last tasted defeat in regulation in late-October in Sylvan Lake.
The Wranglers, who boast an HJHL best record of 19-1, took the earlier meeting by a 6-0 count. The Bisons, who’ve won their past two championships at the expense of Sylvan Lake in the final, own a four-point lead atop the Southern Division with a 17-3-1 record.
The Dec. 6 contest, an 8 p.m. start at the Murray Arena, will feature four of the top five scores in the 13-team league, including Sylvan Lake’s Maddex Bignell, Josh Perreault, Justin Gyori and Okotoks sniper Sam Callahan.
Okotoks closed November with a pair of impressive road wins over Southern Division opponents.
First, the Bisons doubled up the High River Flyers 6-3 on Friday.
Jakob Semeniuk led the attack with two goals, Nikita Syerov notched his first as a Bison with Zephyr Laplante, Brandon Jarman and Caden Scott adding the other tallies.
On Saturday in the Snake Pit, the herd erased a 4-1 deficit to clip the Coaldale Copperheads by a 6-4 score. Laplante, Jady Shigehiro, Ty Russell, Seamus Garagan, Hunter Cobb and Kegan Law scored for the visitors.
Okotoks closes the weekend in Cochrane on Dec. 7.
