A Giant day at the plate gave the Dawgs a series split in Fort McMurray.
The Okotoks Dawgs (10-4) registered 16 hits to overpower the Fort McMurray Giants by a 13-7 count on June 11 in the fourth and final game of a West Division set at Legacy Dodge Field.
Catcher Logan Grant, a Dawgs Academy alumnus who joined the team on the trip, led the offensive attack along with infielders Ricardo Sanchez, Connor Crowson, Trent Lenihan and outfielder Alejandro Cazorla, all of whom had two RBI in the matinee.
Noah Geekie picked up his second win of the season with three solid innings on the bump, backstopped by Gavin Wuschke, Brody Forno, Brady Wilson and Cade Hermann out of the bullpen.
Okotoks was equally hungry for offence in the third game of the set, a 14-6 triumph on June 10.
Crowson, Cazorla and catcher Caleb Lumbard had three-hit performances with outfielder Cesar Valero mashing in two runs. Garrett Maloney got the start and earned the victory with five relief pitchers in Ryan McFarland, Jace Behnke, Seth Thompson, Vic Domingo and Joe Ranford contributing to the win.
The Giants took the first two games of the set by 2-1 and 8-6 scores.
Okotoks opened its five-game road trip by chasing the Sylvan Lake Gulls by a 7-2 score on June 7.
Nash Crowell had a monster four-RBI game with Grant smashing four hits in his season debut.
Home cooking is on the menu this week for the first-placed Dawgs.
Okotoks is home to Sylvan Lake on June 14 followed by jaunts to Lethbridge and Medicine Hat on June 15 and 16. The Dawgs then host Lethbridge for a two-game set on June 17 and 18, the latter of which is the Father’s Day Game at Seaman Stadium, a 2:05 p.m. start.
