Foothills athletes are in the title mix at a milestone Canadian Finals Rodeo.
A trio of competitors from the Okotoks area are in the top three in their respective events at the 50th iteration of the national rodeo competition, held Oct. 2-5 in Edmonton.
Longview’s Bradi Whiteside is off to a torrid start at the four-day competition with a first-place finish of 2.2. seconds on day two of the breakaway roping competition. She sits second in the standings in roping and is ninth in the barrel racing.
In the saddle bronc, three athletes from the area are gunning for the title.
Millarville’s Layton Green won day two and sits third in the standings, High River’s Lucas Macza was fourth on day two and is second overall while Okotoks’ Sawyer Eirikson is 12th.
In steer wrestling, the Okotoks duo of Harley Cole and Jonny Webb are seventh and eighth, respectively. Cole had a strong showing on day two with a second-place finish.
The action continues with two more rounds on Oct. 4 and the morning of Oct. 5 before the championship is decided Saturday evening in the capital.
