A prolific summer on the links has been parlayed into a world title.
Heritage Pointe’s Josiah Tong sunk a pair of birdies in a two-hole playoff to capture the 2024 Under Armour Junior Golf World Championship in the 15-18 boys division on July 21 at the Reunion Golf and Country Club in Orlando, Florida.
Tong birdied his final hole in round two to finish with a combined score of -5, following rounds of 73 and 66, for the tournament and forced a playoff with Maximiliano Santander from Chile.
In the two-hole playoff, Tong delivered a pair of birdies on a par 5 and par 4 to capture the championship.
The success comes on the heels of Tong’s title at the PGA of Alberta Maple Leaf Tour (MJT) Championships where he scored a -14 performance over three rounds.
He followed that up as the top Canadian with a sixth-place finish, in a field of 210 competitors, at the IMG Junior World Championship at the famed Torrey Pines course in La Jolla, California.
In the team event at the IMG Worlds, Tong and Calgary’s Charlie Gillespie finished second on the leaderboard with a combined score of +1.
At Torrey Pines, Tong also took home a first-place finish in a playoff at the 2024 San Diego Men’s Amateur.
