Foothills Storm trio voted AJFHL awards finalists

Okotokian Paige Williams up for Goaltender of the Year in Alberta junior league

Foothills Storm hockey is receiving league-wide acclaim on three fronts.

Storm netminder Paige Williams, blueliner Morgan Coward and forward Mila Preville have been named 2024-25 Alberta Junior Female Hockey League awards finalists.

Williams, an Okotokian, is nominated in the Goaltender of the Year category after a solid second season on the last line of Foothills’ defence. Williams finished with a .912 save percentage and 3.50 goals against average.

She’s up against Cochrane Chaos netminder Elizabeth Campbell, who played minor hockey with the Rocky Mountain Raiders, and Brooke Fawcett from the Edmonton Wolves.

Coward, an alternate captain and second-year member of the team, is up for the Defense of the Year nod while Preville, Foothills’ captain, is nominated for the Leadership Award.

In the Rookie of the Year category, Okotokian Ella Glubish is nominated after posting 14 points in 24 games with the Calgary Titans.

The award winners are set to be revealed on Saturday, April 12 in Edmonton during the AJFHL All-Star Game festivities.

The All-Star Game, held at the Clare Drake Arena, will feature an elaborate skills competition featuring the hardest shot, accuracy shooting, fastest skater and breakaway challenge competitions followed by Team North clashing with Team South.

The Storm will be represented in the All-Star Game by Williams and Coward along with forwards Abby MacNeil, Brooke Lowe and Khloe Bedore along with coach Darcy Williams.

The eight-team AJFHL features teams in Edmonton, Sherwood Park, Fort Saskatchewan, Penhold, Lethbridge, Cochrane, Calgary and Foothills.

Edmonton won the 2024-25 title in a three-game sweep over Cochrane.

Foothills, in its second season in the AJFHL, bowed out in the first round of the playoffs.
