All three phases of Knights football will be on display at the Senior Bowl next month.
Football Alberta’s Senior Bowl will feature a quartet of Holy Trinity Academy Knights Grade 12 stars with quarterback Declan Lyth, slotback Cayden McCullough, defensive back Ashton Power and kicker/punter Ryan Chirzynski named to the Team South roster for the Jan. 5 showcase.
Lyth played behind centre for the Knights as the starting quarterback during his Grade 11 and 12 seasons, guiding the team deep in the playoffs both years culminating in the 4A provincial championship last month at the expense of the St. Joseph’s Celtics in Grande Prairie.
One of his favourite targets, the fleet-footed McCullough was a big play receiver and slotback and key contributor to the running game as well.
Power played on both sides of the ball for the Knights, including as a runningback, before finding a home in the secondary as one of the key members of HTA’s athletic group of defensive backs in 2024.
Chirzynski was automatic as a kicker and punter for the Knights, giving the team reliable special teams play and letting the squad take advantage of strong field position all season.
The Senior Bowl features the top graduating players from southern and northern Alberta following fall evaluation camps.
The 34th iteration of the Senior Bowl will be held at Calgary’s Shouldice Seasonal Dome on Jan. 5 following a couple of days of practices.
Okotoks athletes have a strong track record at the event with a trio of Senior Bowl MVPs coming from the community, HTA Knights runningback Ryder Stone in 2013, Foothills Falcons receiver Taylor Brooks in 2012 and Foothills quarterback Brad Karl in 2010.
