Okotoks sees three-game win streak snapped in BCHL

There continues to be little to choose in the Okotoks Oilers’ newest rivalry.

For the second time in six weeks, the Okotoks Oilers and Cranbrook Bucks split a home-and-home set with both BCHL Interior East Division combatants now owning both home and road wins over four meetings.

On Saturday, the Bucks scored in each period through Blake Cotton, Sammy Hynes and Jacob Fletcher with Jaden Cholette posting a 31-save shutout for the 3-0 win at the Viking Rentals Centre. Olivier Ciarlo made 33 saves at the other end of the ice for Okotoks.

The result snapped a three-game win streak for the Oilers, who sit ninth in the Interior Conference with a 5-8 record.

On Friday in the Kootenays, Okotoks outlasted Cranbrook by a 3-2 score with the visitors tallying the game-winner through Hunter Sawka with just 2:46 left in regulation.

Kade Duell notched his first of the season in the first period with Brett Wilson registering his fifth of the campaign in the middle frame.

Ciarlo stood with 43 saves as the hosts outshoot the Oilers by a 45-30 margin.

The 20-year netminder from Laval has stopped 130 of the last 140 shots he’s faced and owns a 5-5 record with a .902 save percentage.

The Oilers are back on home ice on Nov. 2 for their first meeting of the season with the high-octane Sherwood Park Crusaders.
